Keynote Speaker

Prof. Marina Ruggieri, University of Rome “Tor Vergata” - CTIF

Title: "The Software-Defined-Everything (SDE) revolution in the Space Systems: Softwarized  Satellites, Cloud above the clouds and Human-Robot Cooperation"

Abstract:

Space Systems will be experiencing dramatic challenges in the next decades.

As System designer, the most fascinating innovation will deal with the software-driven transformation of the space system concept and the amazing consequences at space, ground and user segment levels. The umbrella driver will be the application of the Software-Defined-Everything (SDE) approach to the Satellite Engineering.

Satellite experts are all but insensitive to the progress of the Software Defined Networking (SDN) approach in terrestrial networks. Brave satellite system designers and operators that have always conceived the satellite with an integrated, holistic and user-centric vision are aware that the effective application of the SDN paradigm to satellite systems will bring a revolutionary approach to the space world. A broader application of the SD concept towards a space-SDE paradigm will then open new fascinating pages of satellite System Engineering.

In the above scenario, the increasing symbiosis between autonomous systems and human beings is expecting to play a key-role, particularly in the development of manned space exploration and futuristic ground segments.

The keynote speech is a challenging journey to increase awareness, to share a vision and to stimulate insights about the fascinating future of Space System Engineering.
